At JLP, safety isn’t just a checkbox – it’s a core business value embedded in every layer of our business. From comprehensive risk management protocols to advanced monitoring systems, we proactively address potential hazards and safeguard our team, our freight and the communities we drive through.
Our drivers undergo well designed classroom inductions upon commencing at JLP, followed by a 3-4 week in field training program with 1 on 1 support by an experienced trainer. This ensures our team are well prepared and set up for success in what can be a hazardous working environment where simple mistakes can be costly. The feedback from new drivers is that their onboarding experience and training program was second to none, and this is a large part of the reason people want to come work at JLP.
JLP equips it’s trucks with the latest safety tech to ensure our operations are running sustainably and all our drivers are protected. This includes live vehicle tracking, vehicle telematics systems, roll stability systems, in vehicle computer terminals providing driver information on routes, permits, site hazards, external cameras and fatigue and distraction monitoring devices. These expensive truck and safety technologies are not a cost to the bottom line, they are an easy investment decision for JLP.
Regular infield visits and performance evaluations are conducted by experienced trainers and frontline supervisors, across a range of locations and work types. These periodic observations are structured and recorded, and ensures that we continuously monitoring driver performance allowing us to intervene early to coach and guide employees where required on technique or behaviours.
JLP maintains a dedicated group of ~10 experienced driver trainers providing 24/7 coverage across all depots. This industry leading investment means that drivers receive personalised guidance, ongoing development coaching and access to support, advice and mentoring around the clock.
We recognise the challenges of the transport industry and the potential impact it’s demanding nature can have on peoples physical and mental health. Distraction, fatigue, physical and mental health concerns are prevalent in the road transport industry and JLP has monitoring mechanisms in place to identify concerns. That’s why we have partnered with Foremind to provide tailored wellbeing and mental health support to our employees on a confidential and free of charge basis. JLP supports employees with compassion, care and flexibility and invests in quality health and wellbeing programs that employees want to access.
In addition to driver trainers, JLP employs a diverse team of safety, training and compliance professionals whom are spread across our operations. Together, they develop and implement the tools, systems and resources our teams need to stay safe and oversee our transport compliance framework. This includes a robust incident investigation framework, bespoke procedures, work instructions and training tools, ongoing assurance activities and our risk and hazard reporting regime. JLP maintains a strong safety culture that is well embedded into how we work, always.
“JLP have always put safety at the forefront of all that they do, and this reflects in their results with their insurance partners… their name is certainly held in high regard in insurance circles.”
